  1. Favorite thing on the 4th is spending the afternoon at my mom’s annual BBQ. Every year has a different theme and she goes out all with cute little party favors and dorky necklaces or sunglasses… it’s just fun. Like being a little kid again!

  2. I’m Canadian, so July 4th isn’t as important as July 1st for me! But often it ends up being part of the same holiday weekend, which is all about food for me – bbq, salads, deviled eggs and butter tarts!

This year’s July4th will be special though – it’s my first day of teaching my first class ever. I am terrified 🙂

  3. Our town puts on a fireworks display at the golf course across the street from us. So, we spend the day visiting with neighbors and then watch fireworks from our front lawn. If it isn’t too ungodly hot, we can wander over to the golf course where they have music and games all afternoon.

  4. I love going to our town’s fireworks display. It’s great and you never have to plan with friends because everyone is just there!
My favorite 4th’s were actually going down to DC with my folks. My mom’s birthday is the 3rd and her oldest friend would have us down for a few days and throw my mom the best parties on her birthday and then on the 4th we’d have BBQ and our friend’s nephew would put on a fireworks display with all of us at one end of the pool and the fireworks at the other.

  5. We watch the fireworks from the back porch and see only the tallest of them but avoid the parking hassles. On good years, we have a few friends over for burgers on the grill. Mostly, the day is spent puttering around the house and garden and trying to beat the heat. Been using cucumber or watermelon agua fresca for that lately. Yum!!

  6. Ooh…my favorite thing to do on the 4th is to take s pile of cheap fireworks we bought from a roadside stand and set them off in the street while the whole neighborhood is at the “real” show. Then get out the “adult beverages” and watch the fireflies. Perfect.

  7. I actually don’t like the fireworks too much. It’s loud and I have a child with Asperger’s Syndrome, so it doesn’t bid well for him either. We’re not much for crowds either. Mostly, we hang out at home eating, laughing and enjoying the time spent with family.

  8. Watch the neighborhood parade with friends! It’s always quirky and fun- with everything from shriners to politicians to the trinidad and Tobago steel drum band. Dancing in the streets! Heaven!

  9. Wow beautiful Noro. Favorite fourth activity is storytelling pantomimes by sparkled light. My dad started this tradition and I love it. Of course this has followed a BBQ, homemade ice cream, s’mores and a trip to watch local fireworks

  10. Cookout! I love to grill on the 4th. And this past year I got a cookbook called Presidential Cookies. It features a cookie recipe for each president that was either a favorite of his or one popular at the time. I plan on making some of President Teddy Roosevelt’s favorite cookies this year to go with our cookout. They are a kind of a sugar cookie with a cinnamon sugar topping.

  11. I’m another Canadian – but usually my favorite part of National holidays going downtown to enjoy free concerts and seeing the diversity of people that are proud to call the same country home. 🙂

  12. There is a neighborhood “weenie roast” where we just moved, so this was our 2nd annual. Great fun meeting new neighbors and all their guests and families – our good friends come from Virginia for an annual visit – this year we had over 100!

  13. My favorite thing to do on the 4th is hang out with my parents, kids, and grandkids. Unfortunately they’re all at least 1300 miles away. We’re making do with a minor league baseball game with firworks.

    Happy 4th!

  14. Being with friends and family is what the 4th is all about. Good food, Good friends, and Good fireworks!!!!

  15. This year we are spending the holiday with good friends hiking on their land in the mornings, and shooting fireworks at night. It’s my new favorite wat to celebrate our Independence! Thanks for the chance to win!

  16. Favorite thing to do is hand on the deck (in or out of the hot tub) and admire all my gorgeous lilies that bloom right in time for the July 4th holiday. I would love to win this since I have a new porato chip scarf pattern that works up0 great in Noro Silk Garden.
    Happy America’s Birthday to all!

  17. Going to see the fireworks downtown. It will be my daughters second year to see them and she is SO excited she can barely contain herself.

  18. Watching the fireworks from our roof deck with a few friends. Hopefully the rain we are getting today will stop in time!

  19. I just love the fireworks– it bring out the kid in me– and I get giddy and excited at the same time.

  20. .y favorite thing to do is to grill out especially fresh corn and sit out with ice tea and watch fireworks

  21. Love your blog, Amy! My favorite thing to do on July 4th is watch fireworks. When we were kids, we’d go the lake and our Uncle Jerry would shoot off gobs of fireworks. Then the jets would do a fly-by over the lake (Uncle Jerry was a legislator and had pull–pretty sweet). And Uncle Jerry owned a drug store, so there would always be gobs and gobs of bottles of “pop” in metal trash cans filled with ice–grape was my favorite. I can still feel my hand in that cold ice water and taste that cold, wonderful grape sode! These days, we typically go to the roof of our house–we’re about a mile from where the fireworks take place, and the view is spectacular!! Hope your holiday is safe and happy! xoxo

  22. My favorite thing to do on the 4th, is simply “nothing”, I stay at home with my family and enjoy living in what I think is the greatest country around!
So enjoy your peace and happiness, relax and be thankful for all we have!

  23. My favorite thing to do on the fourth is to be at Lake Minocqua, WI – with the whole family on the pontoon boat, going to watch the fireworks on the lake. It’s great to see the running lights on the 100 boats all going home for their own fireworks and s’more’s!
